How can I help?

  • Dispose of your waste properly instead of littering, and encourage others to do so as well.
  • Lawns older than two years don’t require fertilizer. If you think you need fertilizer, take a soil test first. If you can’t take a soil test, apply no more than 2 pounds of nitrogen per 1000 sq ft of lawn. Do not apply right before a predicted storm. Read more!
  • During winter, only salt paved areas that are actually in use. Use sparingly.
  • Get involved in or help organize local planning, cleanup, and awareness events.
  • Attend a SMSWG Meeting.
  • Download the app Litterati and help us collect data on litter problem areas. Our Litterati challenge code is 750736! Help us meet our goal to pick up 1,000,000 pieces of litter! Here is a quick start guide on how to download and use Litterati.
  • If you live outside of the SMSWG towns, visit Think Blue Maine for more statewide information on stormwater pollution prevention.
  • Visit your town’s Stormwater information page:
